Description of Service

Organisation
Staff: 15 Consultant Physicians, 4 APT regs, 4 BPT regs, 1 HMO 2-3, 5 Interns, 3 Care Co odinators
Units: Professional General Medical Units A, B & C AWP Rapid Assessment Team, Disease Management Unit, Trauma Medicine
IM Demographics
IM Beds: 40-60 General
IM Inpatient Activity: APTs rotate between Rapid Assessment, Perioperativeand referrals, and Trauma Medicine. Dedicated Cardiology position available
IM Outpatient Clinics: Disease management clinic up to 3 times a week +/- specialty clinic of choice . Perioperative and Syncope clinics about to commence
IM Specialty Interests / Special Units: All subspecialty areas represented

Formal Training

Lectures: Wide array of lectures and seminars
Journal Club: Weekly
Grand Rounds: Weekly
Consult Rounds: 3 per week with additional PRN
Specialty Rotations: Cariology position available for 12 months. Other subspecialties, including rheumatology, potentially available by special arrangement. Potential for training in echocardiography or general ultrasound during your training
Research: 3 research institutes on campus, opportunity for clinical research. One APT position has potential for protected research time
Quality Improvement: QA Activities including 3 formal audits, bi-monthly death audit

Trainee Responsibilities in IM

Coverage Roster: General Medical calls – participation in weekend receiving roster but no overnight responsibilities. Potential for senior trainees to act in "Junior Consultant" role
Workload in Medicine Units: 43 hours
Teaching Responsibilities 3rd and 5th year medicial students, BPTs and preprartion for 1st part FRACP clinical exam
Research/presentations: Participation in clinical trails, audits and projects according to trainee enthusiasm. Some support to attend conference/s

Bike cage, wonderful cafeteria catering to broad tastes. Cafes, restaurants and bars adjacent to hospital. Good access to parks and central Melbourne . Excellent public transport access
Information Technology: Radiology and lab results on line (integrated), journals, vast other resources
