Description of Service

Organisation
Staff: 18 consultants/6 teams (each 2 interns+2 trainees) also 3 AMU teams of 1 trainee and 1 intern.
Units: 3 large units with 4 teams per unit, close affiliations with Geriatrics, Pharmacology, Peri operative Medicine plus other specialties.
IM Demographics
IM Beds: 126 beds with seasonal increase to 160 patients
IM Inpatient Activity: 6,800 admissions per year
IM Outpatient Clinics: 1 supervised trainee OPD clinic each week, Ad hoc Ambulatory Care Unit clinics. Multidisciplinary and Peri operative Medicine clinics.
IM Specialty Interests / Special Units: Neurology, Stroke Unit, Acute Geriatrics, Cardiology, Thoracic medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, Immunology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Clinical Pharmacology, Drug and Alcohol

Coverage Roster: 1:5 after hours acute take 5-10pm
Workload in Medicine Units: Ave 25 inpatients/team (4 junior staff) and 10 consults/week
Teaching Responsibilities Medical Students year 2/4/6, Interns
Research/presentations: Scheduled and supervised as part of IM training and RACP requirements
