Organisation
Staff: 16 consultants/5 teams (each 2 interns+2 trainees)
Units: 5 General Medical Units, associated Geriatric Medicine Unit
IM Demographics
IM Beds: Seasonal 110-180 (Gen Med only)
IM Inpatient Activity: 6000 admissions/year (Gen Med only)
IM Outpatient Clinics: 1 supervised trainee OPD clinic each week,
Ad hoc Ambulatory Care Unit clinics
IM Specialty Interests / Special Units: Neurology, Stroke Unit, Acute Geriatrics, Cardiology, Thoracic medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, Immunology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Clinical Pharmacology, Drug & Alcohol

Formal Training

Lectures: Comprehensive training program for IM
Journal Club: Within some Medical Units
Grand Rounds: Weekly RAH Grand Rounds for Medicine, Surgery Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Endocrinology
Consult Rounds: 1-2 x daily consultant-led round on each Unit
Specialty Rotations: All speciality units available including ICU
Research: Active clinical and basic - facilities on-site, adjacent Hanson Institute, Medical School
Quality Improvement: Monthly Gen Med meeting,
well-resourced Safety and Quality Unit

Trainee Responsibilities in IM

Coverage Roster: 1:5 after hours acute take 5-10pm
Workload in Medicine Units: Ave 25 inpatients/team (4 junior staff) and 10 consults/week
Teaching Responsibilities Medical Students year 2/4/6, Interns
Research/presentations: Scheduled and supervised as part of IM training and RACP requirements
