Description of Service

Organisation
Staff: 7 consultants with direct GM responsibilities (mixture staff specialists/VMOs with subspecialty interests)
Units: 4 GM units with subspecialty interest. Consultant, subspecialty trainee, gen med trainee or PHO, RMO on each unit.

Formal Training

Lectures: Regular visiting speakers; subspecialty unit meetings.
Journal Club: Weekly
Grand Rounds: Weekly
Consult Rounds: Twice daily and daily post-take ward round
Specialty Rotations: 3-6 month negotiable rotations in rehabilitation, renal, respiratory, oncology, haematology, ICU, geriatrics
Research: Research opportunities exist and participation is encouraged
Quality Improvement: Regular mortality and morbidity meetings

Trainee Responsibilities in IM

Coverage Roster: 1 in 7 after hours (4.30-9.30pm); 1 week-end day each month
Workload in Medicine Units: OPD 2-3 times weekly. GM and subspecialty clinic.
2 wards rounds and post-take ward round per week.
Teaching Responsibilities RMO/student/junior registrar teaching
Research/presentations: Up to 3 presentations in Journal Club and Grand Rounds per year
