280 bed hospital, accredited as Level 2 Teaching Hospital with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

The Department of Internal Medicine, Toowoomba Hospital is the sole provider of public hospital specialist level medical inpatient and outpatient services in the south-western Queensland area - an area of approximately 410,000 km2 with a resident population of about 280,000.

The Department’s primary catchment area is the Darling Downs region (92,000 km2, population 210,000). Queensland Health data indicate that only 55% of bed days relate to residents of the Toowoomba Statistical Local Area. The full service area extends well beyond this, extending east to Laidley, north to Kingaroy, west beyond Charleville to the South Australia and Northern Territory borders, and south into Northern New South Wales border regions.

The City of Toowoomba, located on the eastern edge of the Darling Downs, 120 km west of Brisbane. is the major populated centre in this predominantly rural & remote region.

- 1.0 FTE Neurologist,
- 1.0 FTE Respiratory Physician,
- 0.5 FTE Palliative Care Physician,
- 0.5 FTE Nephrologist,
- 0.4 FTE Oncologist,
- 0.5 FTE Cardiologist (vacant),
- 1.0 FTE Director (vacant)

1 visiting medical officer
Units: 4 general medical units each with a sub-specialty attached. Each unit staffed by 1 or 2 consultants, registrar and resident. There is also a renal unit linked to general medicine

Trainee Responsibilities in IM

Coverage Roster: 7 registrars share after hours including 1 dedicated night registrar.
Workload in Medicine Units: Average of 5 to 10 patients each day to admitting unit. 2 ward rounds a week and 3 outpatient clinics per week
Teaching Responsibilities To junior staff, students and nurses
Research/presentations: Participate in weekly CME presentations and journal club presentations
