Organisation
Staff: Full-time director (General Physician); full-time specialist (general and respiratory medicne); full-time Intensivist, full-time Cardiologist from Jan 09; full-time Geriatrician. 2 visiting General Physicians and 2 visiting Geriatricians. Visiting specialists in Infectious Diseases, Eendocrinology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, Neurology, alcohol and drug treatment.

IM Demographics
IM Beds: 45 (up to 60) General Medicine, 28 Geriatric
IM Inpatient Activity: 190 admissions/month in General Medicine
IM Outpatient Clinics: Weekly schedule of 4 General Medicine OPD sessions, as well as Geriatrics, Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Endocrinology and Rheumatology
IM Specialty Interests / Special Units: General Medicine, Geriatrics and Rehabilitation, ICU, Cardiology (from Jan 09), Respiratory Medicine (from Jan 09)

Formal Training

Lectures: Formal training sessions held 4 days each week at lunchtime, including a Radiology meeting, Cardiology/Endocrinoloy meeting, General Medicine and other subspecialties and journal club.
Journal Club: Held once or twice a month
Grand Rounds: Multidisciplinary grand rounds held forthnightly
Consult Rounds: Perioperative consults offered as a term
Specialty Rotations: Geriatrics and ICU currently. Cardio and Respiratory Medicine from Jan 09.
Research: Clinical research opportunities supported
Quality Improvement: Quality improvement opportunities suported

Trainee Responsibilities in IM

Coverage Roster: Weekend day shift every 3 weeks
Workload in Medicine Units: 15-25 inpatients
Teaching Responsibilities Medical sutdents year 3. Junior doctor training. Shared roster for teaching meetings
Research/presentations: Opportunities supported
