OTHER INFORMATION:The Department of General Internal Medicine at Calvary Mater Hospital Newcastle is the only department of General Medicine in a Teaching Hospital in New South Wales which takes all the acute admissions in Medicine except for Acute Coronary Syndromes. We also operate an active outpatient service and have a particular commitment to practice in non-conventional settings. We have a busy hospital in the home program and operate an active outreach service to rural and remote areas servicing the needs of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Within the hospital, we are concerned with continual improvement in the organisation and delivery of care; and in other settings, with the development of effective models for the provision of specialist services where they had not previously been available.
