Consultant Physician General Medicine - Maroondah Hospital, Melbourne

LOCATION:

Maroondah Hospital is seeking 3 – 4 General Physicians (sessional or Full Time depending on the suitability of applicants).

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Located in Melbourne's leafy eastern suburbs with easy access to the inner city via the Eastern Freeway, Maroondah Hospital is a 319 bed teaching hospital affiliated with Monash and Deakin Universities providing a range of acute medical, surgical and mental health services to the growing outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Maroondah Hospital is on an exciting journey in the evolution of care and practice of multi-system unstreamed Internal Medicine with the 2008 introduction of our Acute Care Medicine Program and with Victoria's largest cohort of unstreamed (100 +) General Medicine patients. Maroondah, an annual host of the RACP clinical examination, along with Box Hill and Angliss hospitals is part of a robust Physician Training program in Eastern Health with 20 FRACP clinical exam candidates in 2010. Basic and Advanced physician trainees enjoy an active and enlarging clinical training program. Eastern health also has the country's first modular advanced training in ACM – Acute Care Medicine.

Having grown rapidly in the last 5 years, the hospital now has medical students from Monash and Deakin universities. This along with a planned expansion of the Dept of Medicine in late 2010 and ongoing high-intensity BPT and APT programs will make this an attractive long term prospect for Physicians. General Physician Grafton Base Hospital - Grafton, NSW

We are looking for a General Physician to join our team of three existing committed General Physicians working in the Clarence Valley in Northern New South Wales. We have an establishment for four General Physicians. You may wish to be employed as a Visiting Medical Officer or as a Staff Specialist.

You will be expected to:
Provide acute and non acute specialist general medical care to referred inpatients and outpatients;
Attend medical emergencies and provide clinical support to the Career Medical Officers and Visiting Medical Officer General Practitioners in attendance in the Emergency Department;
Accept referrals and/or assist in the inpatient management of patients at the request of another Visiting Medical Practitioner, General Practitioner or Specialist;
Manage the care of medical patients in the Hospital's 12 bed High Dependency/Acute Care Unit, supported by a Career Medical Officer for 10 hours per day, 7 days per week; Manage and/or oversee the transfer of medical patients requiring specialist services of a Tertiary Referral Hospital; Participate in a 1:4 on call roster to provide 24 hour specialist on call availability at Grafton Base Hospital; Undertake daily ward rounds and participate in multidisciplinary case conferences if required; Teach Medical students; Participate in quality assurance activities as a member of the Craft Group M&M Committee and the Hospital's Medical Quality Committee; and Provide an inpatient and privately referred outpatient consultative service at Maclean District Hospital.

OTHER INFORMATION:

The position requires registration or eligibility for registration with the NSW Medical Board; Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and/or specialist recognition as provided for under the Health Insurance Act 1973 or the Staff Specialist (State) Award; and evidence of satisfactory participation in the RACP continuing professional development program (or equivalent).

Grafton Base Hospital has 98 beds (39 Medical) and provides specialist General Medical, General Surgical, O&G, and Paediatric Services. Anaesthetics are provided by three GP Anaesthetists working full time in Anaesthetics. There are direct supervision requirements in relation to two Career Medical Officers with greater than five years post graduate experience. The Hospital is affiliated with Medical Schools at the University of Sydney , the University of New South Wales , the University of Wollongong and the University of Western Sydney .

Director Stroke Services, PFT - Orange, NSW

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The purpose of this position is to provide medical leadership for stroke services within the Eastern & Southern regions of Greater Western AHS, and to work in collaboration with the Stroke Care Coordinator in organizing and developing stroke services as part of a hub and spoke model.

As a senior member of the Department and the clinical community, the Director will also play a major role in the ongoing development of clinical services provided at Orange Health service, and in the ongoing senior and junior staffing strategy for the Service.

The Director of Stroke Services will be a 0.2 FTE equivalent post. The remaining 0.8 FTE equivalent will be negotiated with the successful candidate. Opportunities exist in the provision of general medical cover, or in providing neurological or other subspecialty care, either as a VMO or staff specialist.

The Consultant Specialist is responsible to the General Manager through the Director of Medical Services, Orange.

Essential Criteria:
1. Australian citizen or permanent resident, or eligible for sponsorship as a permanent resident.
2. Registration (or eligible for registration) with the NSW Medical Board.
3. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with relevant Faculty for the practice of stroke care, as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
4. Demonstrated technical and professional competence in the practice of stroke care, with clinical experience within the last two years
5. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to a medical service.
6. Demonstrated experience in Clinical leadership roles.
7. Commitment to equitable participation in an on-call roster with other specialist VMOs or staff specialist, as required.

Orange is a major regional centre, and supports the largest hospital within GWAHS, commissioning a Greenfield-site hospital facility in early 2011. The hospital has close links with Sydney University , hosting students in the final two years of the Graduate Medical Programme. The Hospital has also been actively involved in JMO and registrar training for over twenty years, with JMO and registrar support of all major disciplines.

Orange Health Service provides primary care to a population of approximately 45,000 with specialist support of a further 200,000, including the communities of Cowra, Parkes, Forbes, Grenfell, Condobolin, and other smaller towns. This support is provided both by referral for inpatient care at Orange , and by the provision of outreach clinics and other community-based services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position will provide clinical care at the Regional Resource Centre at Broome Regional Hospital through a combination of inpatient consultation and outpatient clinics. You will also participate in the provision of outpatient care to the residents of the whole Kimberley Region by participation in the Community Outreach program. In addition you will be an active contributor to regional health service development and will be involved with medical student teaching through the University of Western Australia , Rural Clinical School site based in the Kimberley . You will work with resident specialists including the current resident physician, plus visiting sub-specialists and primary health staff.

You will possess an FRACP or equivalent with general medical experience. A subspecialty interest in cardiology, endocrinology or nephrology will be favourably viewed, but is not essential
