_From time to time, IMSANZ collaborates with other organisations on conferences we think may be of benefit.  Some of these past collaborations are detailed below.


      

Perioperative Care: Collaborating Against Complications

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA's) 10th Australasian Perioperative Medicine Symposium “Perioperative Care: Collaborating against Complications” virtual meeting was held from 13-14 August 2021. This meeting focussed on two important issues in the field of perioperative medicine: complications and collaborative care. The meeting was held in association with IMSANZ.

     
   

2016 IMSANZ and SOMANZ Conference 

The first combined IMSANZ and Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) Annual Scientific Meeting took place on 15-17 September 2016, at the Alice Springs Convention Centre, Northern Territory. The interface between internal medicine and obstetrics has become increasingly important as the health of the mother is not only critical for a successful pregnancy, but also the intrauterine environment and the outcome of the pregnancy is important for the long term general medical health of the child. Topics included the latest research and knowledge in internal medicine and obstetric medicine, focus on renal disease in the pregnant and non-pregnant patient, infectious diseases, indigenous health and cardiovascular disease.

     
     

2011 RACP Congress: Take up the Challenge: Indigenous Health & Chronic Disease

IMSANZ contributed to an exciting Adult Medicine Division (AMD) program at RACP Congress which was held for the first time at Darwin Convention Centre, Northern Territory from 22-25 May 2011. The RACP Congress explored the challenges of Indigenous health and chronic disease from the perspectives of the College Divisional, Faculty and Chapter groups. The Congress theme, 'Take up the Challenge: Indigenous Health and Chronic Disease' speaks to the health concerns impacting Indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Mäori communities across Australia and New Zealand.

     
   

2010 IMSANZ RACP (Qld) Scientific Meeting

The 2010 trans-Tasman IMSANZ ASM was held in conjunction with the RACP (Qld) annual meeting at the Sofitel Hotel, Broadbeach October 1-3, 2010. The scientific program provided updates across several topics of importance to general physicians within the specialties of cardiology, renal medicine, vascular medicine, infectious diseases, and neurology.

     
   

2010 World Congress of Internal Medicine: World Medicine for the Next Decade: 2010–2020

The RACP, IMSANZ and International Society of Internal Medicine co-hosted this biennial international event in Australia for the first-time from 20-25 March 2010 at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. The Congress explored current and future global health issues through various keynote plenary and concurrent sessions. Several themes throughout the Congress showcased excellence in Australasian medicine and medical sciences, including science research and innovation, health policy, clinical medicine, young people and health, medical science, and healthcare technology. The Congress celebrated the diversity of the College, its Adult and Paediatric Divisions, Faculties, Chapters and its associated Specialty Societies.
     
    2009 RACP Physicians Week 

Physicians Week was held at Sydney Convention Centre from 17-21 May 2009. This event provided a dynamic educational meeting environment through interactive medical educational workshops, specialty-specific scientific programs, updates from various health agencies, access to the latest medical/educational service providers and networking opportunities. The Priscilla Kincaid-Smith Oration was presented by A/Prof John Henly, from Auckland. The oration was titled 'The Specialty of General Medicine- Past, Present and Future'. IMSANZ joined with the Adult Medicine Division to create a program stream covering topics including reflecting interest in the broad continuum of general internal medicine, and the framework in which we work, as well as the effects that the organisation of medical services has on the quality of patient care. 
     
   

2009 RACP, IMSANZ, ANZSGM and AChPM Meeting: Intersections and Transitions 

The RACP (NZ Branch), in conjunction with IMSANZ, Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM) and the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) held a conjoint meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Auckland on 4-6 November 2009. The theme of this ASM was 'Intersections and Transitions.'

     
   

2007 Medicine Ageing and Nutrition Conference

The Medicine Ageing & Nutrition Conference was a conjoint Scientific Meeting in collaboration with IMSANZ, the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM) and the International Academy of Nutrition and Aging (IANA). The combined meeting, particularly with the geriatricians was an important opportunity to build more links between IMSANZ and ANZSGM. The conference was held in Adelaide from 5-8 September 2007, with medicine’s experts in complex comorbidity, where the general physicians and geriatricians, joined with the International Academy of Nutrition and Aging. The program was an excellent balance of original work, invited speakers, clinical updates and workshops.

     
   

2006 IMSANZ, RACP and ANZSN Annual Scientific Conference

The RACP, IMSANZ and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN) collaborated to host the combined Annual Scientific Conference held in the Rydges Hotel, Queenstown from 20-22 September 2006. This meeting of general physicians and nephrologists focused on topics such as diabetes, the metabolic syndrome, cardiac disease and aspects of chronic renal disease, including renal replacement therapies. The keynote speaker was Patrick Parfrey, a University Research Professor, director of the Patient Research Centre with the Health Care Corporation of St. John’s, Canada and an internationally renowned scientist and clinical epidemiologist. The RACP Trainees Day was held prior to the conference with a programme covering the impact of the written and clinical examinations, how to get an overseas Fellowship, job interview advice, research projects, pathways of training and the role of the Advanced Training Committee.

     
   

2005 IMSANZ RACP Annual Scientific Meeting

The IMSANZ RACP ASM was held in Wellington 8-11 May 2005. The Adult Medicine Scientific Program provided an excellent opportunity for interaction between general and sub-specialist physicians from all areas of medicine in Australia and New Zealand. Guest speakers were Prof Eric Larson, Chair of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians, John Henley, A/Prof Dawn De Witt from Shepparton Rural Clinical School, Dr Gillian Durham, Deputy Director-General of Health, NZ and Dr Sue Page, President of the Rural Doctors Association of Australia. The Conference Dinner for Adult Medicine was held at the Wellington Convention Centre.

     
 

2004 RACP Joint Meeting with TSANZ, IMSANZ and ASID

The RACP New Zealand Annual Scientific Meeting was held in conjunction with IMSANZ, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) at the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Christchurch on 3-6 August 2004.

     
   

2004 IMSANZ RACP Annual Scientific Meeting

The IMSANZ RACP Annual Scientific Meeting was held at the National Convention Centre, Canberra on 18 May 2004. The Adult Medicine Scientific Program provided an excellent opportunity for interaction between general and sub-specialist physicians from all areas of medicine in Australia and New Zealand. Guest speakers were Professor Rolf Streuli, Secretary-General of International Society of Internal Medicine and Dr Charles Hind, President of ISIM, who addressed global issues of Internal Medicine. The Conference Dinner for Adult Medicine was held at the National Museum with a lively presentation from Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.

     
   

2003 NZRA RACP IMSANZ Meeting

IMSANZ collaborated with the RACP and New Zealand Rheumatology Association (NZRA) to host a combined meeting in Rotorua, New Zealand from 3-6 September 2003. The general focus of the meeting was on methods of quality improvement in healthcare services and systems, with a parallel theme on healthcare for indigenous peoples. The wide multidisciplinary and international representation amongst the delegates, especially from the Asian Pacific rim, provided a unique breadth of perspective. IMSANZ promotes dedicated forums where successes or failures in quality improvement and system change, experienced by IMSANZ members, are openly discussed.
